Your Responsibility to you
Whether you are a first time buyer or have bought before
- Go to the Bank and get pre-qualified for a mortgage. This will ensure that you are fully aware of the price range of homes you can afford.
- Do your research – think about the features you want in a house and divide the list into three: have to have, would like to have, and would be nice to have. This list will include things like: parking, a fireplace, a small backyard, bathroom numbers, close to TTC, close to highways, being able to walk to the grocery store or coffee shop, etc.
- Think about whether you are interested in doing any work on your house. Gutting vs. redecorating or just re-doing a couple of rooms.
- If you are already living in Toronto, spend a few Saturdays in different communitities:
High Park, Ronsevalles, Leaside, Deer Park, North Toronto, etc.
Each area has its own attractions. Try to pinpoint which type of community you feel most at home in. If you are from out-of-town, think about where you are currently living and what it is that you like about being there.
